Post subject:  Erson 280/270 question

I just ordered the 280/270 Erson cam from John. Forgot to ask him if any advance is built into this cam,and if so how much.
Anyone know ?

Tried calling them today, but no answer.

For those of you running this cam,how is it working for you ?

Thanks alot.

Best advice is to degree it yourself, so you will find out how much is in there. My guess is there is none, and you will want to advance 2-5 degrees to get 102-105 deg.

GuzziMark has one of the faster cars in the West running this cam at 105 deg centerline.

I had mine ground with 4 degrees advance as per their recommendations.(Lou's science) coupled with my DCR calculations.
Duster Idiot has a similar build. My static CR is 9.25. I have big valves , chamber work, Super6 manifolds.

With my build I ended up with what I wanted. Totally steetable, daily driver, Ultimate Super 6, explosive midrange torque in lower gears. 89 octane. It gets Super6 mileage, vaccum signal , driveability.

To mill enough to get the compression needed for this cam you will probablyrequire custom pushrods......or you can use an aftermarket rotating assembly.

You will need a custom advance curve.

Thanks Lou,Sandy

The cam has a 108 centerline. Advancing 2-5 degrees to 102-105.
Very good.

EDIT: Talked to John today.
The cam has O advance built in.
He said since it is a 4-spd car to install it at the 108 centerline.

What do you guys think ?

Ignore, I repeat, IGNORE any centerline numbers given to you by ANY cam company. They are thinking SBC motors and have no direct experience with 225s.

I would degree this at 102 installed and go with that for a naturally aspirated engine.

If a blown application, then this may change.

Post subject:  Yep...

I had mine ground 4 degrees with advance but my LSA is 111 not 108 because I needed my overlap event to be within a certain window for the hyperpak intake to prevent reversion up the runners... the idle is a bit smoother than expected, the cam really likes the rpm and is a pretty good match for the 10.3:1 SCR I worked up...I set mine to to the 107 centerline...I probably could go a bit more, but it's working great where it's at so I won't jinx it.

Good choice!

Thanks Guys.

This is a 4 spd car,so I take it I can get away with a little less advanve ?

Looking like a coin flip ! lol

No a clutch and manual car means you can get away with a lot more advance = more torque, than the automatic guy who has to splurge on the stall convertor and other things... Manuals can run a much more aggressive cam and still be streetable, because 'you' are in control... on the other hand if you decide to push the limit of the clutch you can kiss your feet goodbye, so make sure to upgrade to a better clutch if going to a performance build... (of course the stock 9.25" will wither and fade before it frags on you...unlike it's stock 10" big brother)
