when to change.. 100K? I had 212K miles and never did change it whats the book recommend. Ive talked to some wrenches and they said they have never changed one.... |

100k it's due. You can check on it's health by checking the position of the rotor in the distributor, watch it, and rotate the engine backward by hand. If the engine rotates much at all before the rotor starts to move, it's time. CJ |

The big question is the top cam gear. The cast iron gear sets will last a long time, the chain may get loose which can retard the cam timing but these do not skip teeth. Later SL6 engines with the aluminum / nylon cam gear, tend to go 100 to 150K before the teeth fail. DD |
