Post subject:  Can someone help me with electronic ignition conversion?

Hello. I have read the forum on the conversion but having some problems taking it all in and was hoping someone could make the life simple with the picture I have below.

I would like to know all the correct wiring.

In the picture the module has pink wire, white wire, black/white wire & a white/black wire.

The coil has a pink, white, white/black

My Bosch relay has 4 prongs 85 87 86 30

My distributor has 2 wires black and white

I think I have all the parts needed now I need the experts advice.
Any help would be deeply appreciated.

Thanks in advance. Bill

Minor point for clarification: your relay will have terminals 85, 86, 87, and 30.

30: Power input from battery or alternator B+, via appropriate fuse
85: Trigger (-) to ground
86: Trigger (+) to ignition switch output (live when ignition switch "on")
87: Power output to module/coil

Thanks for the info on the relay. Can you help with the Module, coil and distributor?

That info is in the HEI upgrade article.

That module looks like the one I got that would not work with a distributer. Also that coil does not play well with the module you really want.

You really want the module that you would pull from inside a distributor and the coil that is on the same vehicle.

That's why I am asking, because after I have read trough the article I thought the set up I chose was doable but in the article I see the other style so now I think I'm even more confused. Any other thoughts on the parts in the picture??? This looked like the cleaner way to go but I am not sure on the wiring. (it show the other style) if it won't work I sure would like to know before I attempt this mod.

I pulled that style module and coil (the one you have pictured)from a chevy pickup and it would not fire my distributor. I adapted the other style module in place of the one you have and it ran for about 20 minutes and left me stranded. I exchanged the module with another known good one and it fried in less than a minute. I went to a yard and pulled the older style module and coil from an 86 chevett and it worked like a charm.

Give the article another look — I've gone in and reworked it, added new pictures and information and wiring diagrams supplied by other members who have successfully gone this route.

Dan that article shows a different coil and module than the original poster has in his picture. The coil he shows has a different connector for the center wire to the disrtibutor. The article also shows the older style module. Basicly the stuff he has will not work.

I agree his late-type module won't work, but why not the coil?

I don't know why but, the one I used smoked 2 modules.
