Post subject:  Heater core bypass issues
Are there any issues with bypassing the heater core? I have a stock 75' swinger with a/c (that I'm going to ditch) and the heater core is bad. As a result it leaked coolant all over the floorpans when the car was running until I bypassed it. I want to remove the a/c and have no need for heat. Is there any need for a heater core aside from heating the car? Thanks.

Nope, you can just cap off the two fittings (one on the head, one on the water pump) or run a loop of heater hose from one to the other.

Thanks for the quick response, already made the loop. Are there water pumps available without those two fittings? I'm slowly but surely going to have the engine compartment down to the bare minimum and really don't like unecessary hoses in there.

No. And you need the one of them anyhow, to go to the bypass fitting on the underside of the head.

This is what I did in my '78 Volare. I have neither AC, nor heat.
The engine compartment down to the bare minimum; I'm with ya on that. Less weight, and less stuff in the way. 8)

If you are using the aluminum water pump and you want to get crazy with it, you can cut the tip of the heater hose inlet off the water pump and weld a aluminum disc over it.

My friend Mike did this on his dirt track car and it looks really great. Kind of like a "factory delete" water pump :)
