Post subject:  Different Front-Rear Shocks?

So i was looking at a set of front Lakewood drag shocks (streetable-70/30), but they don't offer rear shocks for the A-body. Would it harm my handling significantly by using KYBs on the rear?

Also the car's rear leaf spring brackets are being reversed and the torsion bars adjusted to level it out incase that matters to much.

Thanks,

Aaron

Race shocks, huh?

You are trying to loosen up the front to get good weight transfer to the rear for launching? If the rear is not set up right you can run into problems, depending on what you want to do and how much power you have.

I am in the process of trying to figure out these issues on my demon. My problem is that I like my big torsion bars, so a loose front is not really happening for me... Anyway, what I have been told is that you want the rear shackles set up to make the body separate from the rear on launch, smashing the rear tires down. (angle them foreward and up from the rear eye of the spring)

This is where the rear shocks come into play. You want them to allow the separation to happen but then it has to come back down gradually. If the shock compresses back down too fast you get a quick hookup followed by a loss of traction.

I am definitely not an expert, I'm trying to figure out this stuff myself too.

Good luck.

If i relieved my torsion bars to lower my stance in conjuction with the rear, would the drag shocks also help make the body roll absolutely ridiculous? It is my daily driver and i don't push it on corners, but it already handles quite loose as it is.

I'm not sure how different shocks would affect the handling after the lowering, but money isn't to much of an issue if it means getting kyb or edelbrock shocks if it means staying on the road..
