Hey guys, I am new to the slant sixes and need to replace the ignition module? inside the distributor. How does this come out?? I scratched my head all night on this. Any help for a newbie out there? I have a '80 Dodge d-150 with the 225 slant six and a 3sp. manual with OD. Truck only has 84000 miles on it and I am hoping it will last me a while as my daily driver. Thanks in advance..... |

Welcome on the board. The ignition module is not located inside the distributor. It's bolted onto the firewall or inner fender and looks like this:  (colour of the box may vary). A good replacement module is Standard-BlueStreak #LX101. The part inside the distributor that occasionally(!) goes bad is the pickup assembly. What diagnosis have you done to determine which part (or parts) need replacement? |

I have chased current to the coil and over to the distributor but have no spark at the wires. There were electrical problems before I got the truck and everything on the firewall that had a plug has been replaced. new plugs, wires, cap, button, plus everything on the fire wall. I was going on the thought that since I had current to the distributor and not out that the pick up module was the culprit??? Any advice is greatly appreciated because this is my ride to and from work and it is hard to share one when schedules are different. Do I need to pull the distributor to take this apart??? This is not a problem if I have to. I am mechanically able to do this and need to get the truck running. Thanks for the quick reply SSDan. |

Quick answer is yes much easier to replace the pickup assembly with the dist out and on the bench. Check the condition of the reluctor for rust,chipped teeth and side to side movement of the dist shaft and check air gap while in there.I don't have a part # but Napa usually has the good ones.Good luck |

pulled the distributor and replaced the pick up assy, put it back together and voila!! She's ALIVE!!! Thanks for the help guys and I'm sure I'll have more questions.... |
