...actually two. On my EI distributor the reluctor has one blade on it that has a small chip on the bottem of it. Maybe a 1/32" by 1/32" piece is missing. Will this affect anything ? Also, while I have the dizzy apart to clean and check the internals, does anyone use a tiny bit of grease to lubricate the weights and the 2 sliding plates that the pick up mounts on ? or just a drop or two of 30 weight? I know they made "distributor" grease back in the day but thought that maybe just a rather thick moly grease would do the trick ... Thanks |

When I refurbish a distributor before it goes out the door, I clean the gunk out of the shaft well and repack the grease vents with a bit of moly or lithium grease to keep the shaft lubed. After assembly I put a dob of grease on the weightpins but under the governor so it gets lubed there. Before I finish I make sure to put a few drops of oil into the top of the governor and "work" the governor a bit to make sure it drools down the mainshaft spindle. After a few good runs after installed and the distributoir gets a couple of hot soaks the lube will go where it may, but the parts should still have a good bit of film for a while... The chip should not be worried about, you can stick a multi meter in the plug connector and set to 1000 ohms... slowly roll the shaft around and the reading should show about 450+ on a "tooth" and about 150 or so on a "valley"(or maybe that was backwards but it's a bit late...) if the damaged tooth isn't in that range or doesn't read well, I would replace it...If you need another Reluctor I have a few "used" spares in good condition, I can send you one for the price of postage. -D.Idiot |

Thanks DI ! I got a new gear and vacuum advance can installed, cleaned out all the dust and lubricated everything lightly. Just put her in and she fired up the first time !! YEAH !! (first time i've ever messed w/ a dizzy's internals so I'm happy) Now I just have to turn that idle speed down to get that ported vacuum to zero at idle. (still running 15" at hot idle). Thanks all !! |
