What is the difference between the LX301T module that costs $12 and the LX301 that cost $30 on Rock auto? Just wondering.

Any Standard number that ends in a "T" is cheapest-garbage-from-China grade.

So "T" stands for trash ??

Naw, it stands for "Terrific", as in "Yes no problem can make for you 100% terrific quality from own factory in Guangdong...you sign here now!"

 We've dealt with same companies!

Do you know the third container rule?

Container #1 - parts are as you ordered/spec'd, great quality
Container #2 - parts are close to spec, quality is a little off
Container #3 - parts aren't even close to right, quality is shot

My friends and I figure that it takes til the third container for them to have outsourced your part so far that not even they know who makes them anymore.

Like Dan said. This is a response from Standard Motor Products, to an e-mail, asking that question.
Quote:
Charles,
The LX301is from our Standard line. The LX301T is from our Trutech line. The Tru-Tech line is our "Regular" quality line where Standard is our "OE or better Performance" line. The Standard line also offers a more comprehensive warranty. Both would offer satisfactory performance. I hope this answers your question adequately.

Ahhhh, diplomacy! (not that I would ever expect to see a company say "T is TruTech, which is our garbage-from-China line for cheapskates".)

Actually, No. I realize the LX301T is "cheaper". What makes the LX301 a better
product. Different internal components (heavier duty), better manufacturing
procedures, better QA? To be blunt, I am sick of getting "cheap junk" parts , to
install on customers cars. I am trying to determine the actual difference
between different product lines. I am more then willing to pay more for a better
product, and not have to worry about warranty issues.
PS: This pertains to other companies, also, not just SMP Thanks for your time.

Charlie,
Boy, this would be a lot easier if you had asked about a distributor
cap..Without pulling the two prints and comparing them side by side,it's tough
to be specific. In general it is a combination of all the things you mention
that differentiate the lines. The main purpose of our statement is that you
would not notice a performance difference between the two parts once installed.
We warranty the Standard part for longer based on these differences. I'm not
sure if this is specific enough, if not I'll try to be if I can.

Riiiiiight, no performance difference.

He's giving completely predictable, CYA answers ("cover yer butt"). This reminds me of headlight bulb performance listings by Sylvania. All their 9006 bulbs are listed as producing 1000 lumens. That's not true; their SilverStar junk and their long-life item produces about 860 lumens and their Xtravision produces about 1050 lumens, but they're all listed as "1000 lumens". Why? Because that's the nominal value in the regulation. Plus or minus 15 percent, but if they published the actual (low) output of the SilverStar bulbs, it'd spoil their advertising babble about "whiter and brighter". So, they just list the nominal regulation value, not the bulbs' actual output.

Same with SMP. "All our parts meet or exceed" blah blah woof woof etc.

Aside from the 18 bucks, there's a ton of difference. You'll be buying several of the cheap ones because they will fail! I'm running a genuine GM part, and the quality is noticeable just by looking at it.

I use an Accel unit on the 5th..of course I noticed it was made in china after I installed it and looked at the box. No problems yet but I do carry a spare just in case.
