I was reading some where that the forged crank balancer is different then the cast crank.

Vibration Damper

The 170, 198 and 225 all use the same vibration damper PN 2806211. The '76-77 cast crank engine uses a different damper PN 4071060. They should not be swapped.

Whys this? I need another pulley so I can have power steering...

Post subject:  Easy answer...

Cast crank is much lighter than the forged crank so the damper is heaver to make up for the lighter weight of the crank and the harmonics it may have...

Technically the dampers can be swapped without much fanfare (use newer style timing cover to line up damper marks...)... but if you are drag racing and looking to lighten up the rotating mass, the forged crank damper is lighter by a little bit...

If you need the power steering front pully to add to your damper, PM me I have dozens and would sell you one for the cost of shipping...

Hm. The cast crank dampers I just bought are lighter overall than the forged crank ones, but almost equal.
