I did it. Removing the the manifolds and broke a stud on the lower row
Searching through the "How to" section I find a lot of information, but some where some one said never use an easy out to remove the remaining section of stud from of the block.
OK I can't find that now..........Murphy sticks again !
What then is the best method to remove the broken piece ? And why not to use an easy out?

The EZ out is hardened and will snap off in the hole. Then you cant drill the EZ out out. :D
It is best to drill the hole oversize and use a helicoil ( I like to JB weld them in place).
OR if you can get your drill started right you may be able to drill small hole in stud and increase in size until you can pry the old stud out and just clean up the threads. This has worked a few times for me.

Are all lower studs located in the water jacket? What happens to metal chips if they get in there ?

Answer to your first question seems to vary by head, according to an old discussion thread I cannot presently locate. Front and rear definitely. A few small metal chips into the water jacket are of no consequence.

Thanks Dan. I reviewed my first question and noticed I used 'block" rather than head, what I really meant was "head", so I am therefore a "block head ?"
Don't answer that !

Drill it out. Then heat it with a torch and use some parafin wax on it. It'll come out witha easy out then.

Can always drill it then just chase the threads witha tap if your really good with a drill.
