I would like to know witch carburetor is better for all around use in a truck that's a daily driver. I have one of each but they both have there drawbacks first off they are manufactured :(. I have used the Holley for a wile but had problems with it so i got the carter and it wouldn't run at all they wouldn't take it back cause it had "a gas smell" . So back to the Holley the choke linkage looks home made to me, it had a #60 jet, the float spring was missing, and the economizer stem assembly was not even on the bypass valve. I have patched it up good enough to run but its still bad. what would my best option be?
Thanks for any advice.

In your '85? Probably neither! Neither is original to that truck, and both will lack a bunch of hookups for proper installation in an '85. Maybe the engine bay in your '85 has been "reconfigured" to '60s-'70s levels of equipment? It would help to know stuff like this. Aside from hookup issues, at this late date carburetor condition is more important than carburetor make/model. Sounds like both of the carbs you have now are junk. "Remanufactured" carbs usually are, and shame on that parts store (who?) for not standing behind the products they sell. Par for the course these days, I guess.

I may have a new carb on the shelf to suit your truck; send me a PM if you'd like to look at going that route.

The previous owner tried to take the emission junk off it but, his method was tare it lose and not do it right. It had a lean burn carburetor with no choke, and the lean burn distributor. I put a 71 (points type) distributor in it and of course it would hardly run without the idle stop solenoid so out with and old in with the junk. I rebuilt it best i could but the fuel economy was bad 10-12 mpg at best but it got me threw school. The store is called Ross auto parts I have since herd several horror stories about them.
