Good day folks, I'm wondering if anyone is using Hooker Super Comps with a a833 four speed? My problem is clearance with the torque tube, I've changed my 70 Duster from an automatic, I mounted the reinforcing bracket using the ball stud through the existing hole in the apron above the frame rail, I know it gets welded in later. I'm using a early 64 or 66 cast bell housing with the correct 8'' torque tube from Brewers, in test fitting it appears that the lower bracket on the torque tube that would push and pull the clutch fork is hitting directly on the header.
What am I doing wrong? can anybody help please?
Thanks Derek

You are probaly not doing anything wrong.

Most likley you will have to cut the "arm" that pushes the clutch rod off the tube and reweld it so it clears the headers.

That's what I did on the dart - also some mixing and matching of throwout bearing pivot arms to get the geometry correct in my car.

Different generation cars have different mount points/geometry to make things right... the 67-72 is the same body style as the 73-76, linkage will interchange back and forth but there are some subtle differences. When putting a late bellhousing into a 63-66 car, and vice-versa some "fitting" has to be done as the mounting points are different, take some time and patience and it should fit together after a bit of head scratching and mocking things up where it needs to be and where it is now.

Good Luck,

Thanks to both of you for the response, I kind of came to the same conclusion that it was going to need some fabrication.
Greg do you happen to have any photos of your set up for direction? I though I saw under car shots on here or video?? but it was quite a while ago.
Thanks again
Derek

On Ryan's Dart (72) with the MP header we had to heat the lower arm and bend it over about 1" in order for the 6 into Headers to fit. I believe most any long tube header , and a car with a clutch, will require a little re-engineering to fit properly. That being said it is not difficult at all to install or remove his header now.

Thanks Rick, with the Hookers the collectors are side by side. I was thinking of making a right angle offset in the lower lever to get over one side or the other of the collector tube with small gussets to keep it strong....hopefully this will work.

Regards Derek

Derek, There is a video of the undercar on youtube. Just ckick on the pic in the sig line it will take you there.

I am not so sure the video shows the linkage so well.

It's really just a cut, measure, trial fit, weld job, not too hard.
