Post subject:  questions/ideas for building a turbo slant

anyone running multiple turbos with success? I saw a jaguar inline 6 setup with 1 for every 2 cylinders, something like 5-7psi each, dunno if anyone has attempted anything like this, I like the idea just not sure of the feasibility. Also thinkin bout a EFI setup similar to the Edelbrock Pro-Flo XT EFI. Still readin up on turbo designs and installations, so if I miss a step, feel free to let me know.

A few of us have mocked this up, but I don't think anyone has done it. Easiest way, which is my long term dream/plan, is to use Doc's "Dutra Duals" manifolds, front and rear, and bolt small T3 turbos on, one for 3 cyl each.

There are maybe 20 or so port EFI Slants running around.

I had two turbos on my Valiant back in the 90's. I used the 2.2L Chrysler ones. Lag was about the same as what I have now. Single turbo idea took over but would like to experiment again someday. Maybe I can find a pic or two. Later

I will go with custom headers and the Offy 2x1 bbl intake, maybe open the intake for 2x2bbl, I have had this in my mind for several years.

Ryan,

Kudos to you for the 2Xturbo setup done years back. Would like to see a pic of that.

I was looking into swapping a SL6 into My Frod Pinto making it into a Fopar Minto Size constraints make this unlikely (that and My gf would $#!+ golden bricks If I hacked her car) Seeing this D150 Pickup on her runnin 11's has resurected an old Idea I had with a twist. Im considering running the Eaton M90 I already have with Twin Turbos remote mounted in the bed feeding the M90 will allow 8Psi Boost from Idle Building up to around 25 at 3000rpms Working on the Turbo sizes now but I'm thinking of wrapping the whole Exhaust with header wrap to retain heat all the way to the Turbos. and Running the Eaton on the Passengersid with a Front mount IC coming out Drivers Side into the intake. Throttle body will be on the back of the Eaton so Im not sure which intake to use quite yet. Clifford Triple Side Draught looks enticing With MPFI and a Straight Log connecting them all... I know The SL6 was meant to be turbocharged the only way this engine can make Tons Of Power. After reading a lot of the post on here I think there is something everyone is overlooking. This engine wasn't meant for High RPM Racing, looking at the Stroke it was Low end that made it what it was Think Diesel. Not High RPM Racing but straight Stump pulling power with taller gears and traction...Small Bore is the Restrictor that wont allow the N/A 2HP/CI that most engines allow. The best bore/stroke Ratios are Bigger Bore. Maybe its the Cam and the Maybe its just something that cant be done I don't know but Understanding the Basics wont do it. There are engineers here who have forgotten more than I know. I get the basics plus a lot more on building fast cars getting them to hook up and Go like hell. Maybe the six just can't do what I want it to...

I had to open my yapper so here are the Photos.

As you can see I used what I had. Toilet flanges and all. Built a box around a 500 cfm AFB. 1" thick 18 ply box w/ 1/2" lexan lid. Headers were homemade duals into 3" pipes. All used tubing. Got info from 21st Century Turbo if you all remember them. I still get heck from my friends for putting 2 toilet flanges on my car. They called it the flying toilet. Long story short, 71 Duster needed an engine soon after and Valiant sat till Thread started here a year or so back. Car was put together (turbos) back in 94 or so.

Would like to see someone put twins on a Slant. Not for sure what the advantage would be but would look pretty cool. Good luck to any who try!!

Awesome. But what we really wanna know is: did it make a flushing sound on takeoff?

HaHaHa. No flushing sounds. Only the mockery from wannabees.

Yeah, but how did it work?

It work OK. Had good power. Nothing like now. Boost was only about 8 psi till I shifted. Wastegates were wired shut. Just couldn't get that much boost out of it. Was going to fill the AFB floats with foam (fuel seep) but like I said, my wifes Duster needed a motor and that was that. At that point in my life all I had to drive was a 71 Dude pickup and 71 Duster so transportation was key not twin turbos. I think with a bigger stall and 1000 more rpm it would have been doable. It had a stock 904 w/ 3.23 rear. Carb in box worked good. Made linkage and sealed it up. I still have the turbos, carb and box. Header flanges are on the current combo. The lexan lid was neat in that you could see the carb functioning. later

You got me, I am a total wannabe. Hope to see the "real" turbo Valiant setup again at Kearney this year.

Well heres my thought process. Or, slant is a basic in line6 slanted, ok, some say its not for high rpm, but look at the hondas runnin 9000rpm inline motors. Yes the slant has a deep stroke, even compared to stock BB motors, so figure ur gunna build a motor that can make the power needed until the turbo kicks in, make sure the parts are ment to lhandle the increase in power and go. I know theres prolly flaws in my thought process, but thats why I started the post

From what I've read the 225 anyways won't live long above 7grand seems like 6500 is about the max. I would suppose if you unlimited funds you could make it work. High rpm Application the smaller engines would be best. I'm really starting to like how compound boost sounds with the 225 Using a positive displacement supercharger for 6-7psi from Idle then when you add the turbo boosting around 3k rpms 15psi makes 30psi total. Kind of a progressive boost level. Building it might be a little different. The Helion kit on the stock Supercharged mustangs makes around 1000hp. looking for 450 on a slant seems reasonable. Without the sudden spike of the turbo it makes it an extremely flat tq and hp curve

All of the successful 225 builds I've seen with turbos (HP = 400 to 630) make good power at low RPM (peak around 5000). RPM kills motors much more than boost.
