Post subject:  Valiant/Dart Wagon Rear Side Window Seals

Does anyone know if anyone makes Rear Side Window Seals for Valiant/Dart Wagons? These are the fixed windows behind the rear side passenger doors.

Thanks. You are a wealth of information. I figured it was on here somewhere. Now all I need is $1200.

That's for the whole car's worth of seals! Either vendor will sell you just the rear quarter glass seals.

All the seals/rubber needs replacing. I was worried about finding the window seals since they aren't real common.

If you pick one of the Australian vendors, be clear with them what year your car is -- seems there's a difference in the quarter glass between certain Australian '63-'66 ("AP5-VC") wagons and their US/Canadian counterparts.

Oh, and one other thing: I see that Layson's replied to your identical post over on FABO. I have already PM'd you over there with a bunch of links to read to see why Layson's has such a bad reputation, but see how they say they don't have the weatherstrip material in stock but can order it in? See how their part number starts with "GG"? That means they're getting it from Gary Goers and marking it up. Want an American vendor but don't want to pay Layson's for doing/making nothing? See here.

Dan;

I had gone to www.bluestarspares.com.au and asked the following:
Will kit Weatherstripping kit 64-67 - AP5-VC wagon also take care of a 63 Valiant wagon?

I recieved the following:
No, the profile of the rubber is different on the 63 wagons, Which we cannot get anymore.

Next question was:
Which rubber profile is different? Doors, windows? Will any of the
64-67 kit fit? I would be interested in the fixed rear window seals/gaskets. Mine are very cracked.

Received the following:
From memory, it is the front screen seal, and the rear side cargo glass seals that are a different profile. As well as the door glass belt strips.

Does this eliminate the Blue Star Spares kit? They have the rear window seals listed as part of the 64-67 ($1200) which is alot to spend to find out they won't fit.

I'll also check with the other link you suggested.

Thanks.

His answer isn't quite correct. The windshield gasket is identical for '63-'66 A-bodies all over the world. The '63 Dart hardtop/sedan backglass is different than the '64-'66 (not relevant to your wagon), and there is some difference in the rear quarter glass between early and late Australian (but not U.S./Canadian) wagons of this time period, caused by a changeover from bodies imported to Australia from North America (early) to local manufacture in Australia (late). This changeover does not apply in North America; TTBOMK all the '63-'66 A-body wagons up here use the same quarter glass seals.

The door seals, window seals, etc. are all the same on all '63-'66 A-body 4-door sedan and wagons all over the world.

So, short answer, the kit from Blue Star Spares minus the quarter glass seals should work well for you. But you can definitely source the door weatherstrip/windlace material in a variety of colours without going to Australia. Same with the windshield gasket, the side window seals and cat whiskers, and all the body bumpers. See this post and get a Gary Goers catalogue.

But that still leaves you without moulded 1-piece new gaskets for your rear quarter glass, which is what started this thread. Do you have intact old ones that are just crispy and old? If so, Steele Rubber Products in the USA will be able to reproduce them in very good quality if they can be convinced there's sufficient market to do so; see here. The American + Australian market demand ought to be sufficient to do so; all it would take is to educate Steele to that reality.

The rear window seals are still holding the glass in but I'm guessing have shrunk at least a 1/4 inch since there are gaps in the rubber that large. The silver locking strip in the center has not broken. Not sure how accurate they would be for patterns.

Just wanted to post a reply to this message, asking if there is a currently-available source for rear cargo window rubber seals for 63-66 A body wagons that we know of?

I have not searched online everywhere yet: I found this thread and thought I would ask.
