Okay, I have been trying to decide if I want to shell out the bucks for a new Weber 38DGES 2bbl carb for some time now. I have a Weber 36DCNVH on my slant right now, and I have another Weber 36DCNVH on the shelf. This 36DCNVH works okay, and I might be able to tweak/tune/rejet/etc. and get more performance out of it. However, I happen to have enough extra money (I mean cash, not room on a credit card) to where I could afford a new Weber 38DGES. My Volare is a daily ride, and it starts right up everyday, but I would like to hear if some of you think I will like a 38DGES better. Thanks, Wes |

hello wesola. i like the 32/36 as we have discussed in the past. i would think the 38 would be good as well with more power and a little less mpg. i would like to know how you like the 36dcnvh carb. pierce manifolds offers the offy dual carb intake w/ 2 of those 36s on it for just over 600 bucks and am considering that setup for a future build. thanks, andy. |

Hey Andy, I originally bought these two 36DCNVH carbs together on top of an Offy dual carb setup. The place I bought it from was called ProLine Fuel, but he's not doing that anymore. I ran it like that for awhile, but I wanted to get back to a simpler setup, as in one carb. So, I sold the intake and kept the two carbs. It runs fine, starts right up every morning. Right now, I don't have any heat to the intake, and I also have a slight vaccuum leak somewhere. So, if I buy a 38DGES, these two carbs may be going up for sale. I'll let ya know. Okay. If I decide to sell these carbs, after I buy a Weber 38dges, you have "first dibs" Andy. Actually, knowing that I could sell these carbs makes it a bit easier for me to justify (a.k.a. not feel so guilty) about buying a new Weber 38DGES.  I will keep you informed!  Later, Wes |

just remembered (memory is the first to go!) installing a weber kit on a freinds jeep, straight 6 258? which used the 38dges and was basically plug and play. the kit was designed for the jeep and probably already jetted properly. ran great and the owner was impressed with improved performance over stock carb. i had to put a bigger primary idle jet in my sons 32/36 to get good idle. getting the webers tuned properly is the key. andy. |

Hmm. Well, my memory is still pretty good, but my hair is not all there anymore. Also, at 46 years of age I'll be wearing prescription glasses soon. Oh well... Yeah, I have read that those carbs are popular with the Jeep guys. Plug and play, that's what I'm talkin' about!

I just got my new Weber 38DGES carb today! WOOHOO! Thanks John, aka Moose. Moose did right by me on this deal, by the way. I'll be installing it next week, hopefully. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like I'll need to mount it sideways? Anyway, I look forward to getting it mounted and dialed in.

Thanks for the kind words, Wes. Since it is a synchronious opening carb, I thought it would be best to mount it sideways so that each barrel essentially feeds half of the cylinders. I was going to fabricate a mouinting plate to be able to turn it that way, but never got around to it. Moose |

With the way the linkage is going to attach to it, I think mounting it sideways will be the most practical. As for mounting it, I have a Mr. Gasket adapter that I used on my other Weber carb, I just had to file on it to get it to bolt up. I would like to get a custom adapter made up for it, but it may be awhile before that happens. I got the gaskets in the mail today, by the way. Thanks again John!
