I've just acquired an 87 D100 Short Bed slant/904 from my Step-Grandson. Rather than try and retell the story of it's acquisition, take a look at the link from FABO:

I had nothing but problems with mine ('87 D150), but all maintainance related (or rather the previous owner's lack of maintainance/ wire hacking).

I've been getting closer to a good tune on mine lately and I've hauled lots of junk (moving to a new garage)

Keep in mind that the big trucks like a different distributor tuning than the little cars- closer to 0*btdc at idle, and sprung to advance kinda slow, then real slow when the 2nd spring kicks in at the last few *

Search my posts containing "D150" for my extensive troubles and fixes.
I hope they will be irrelevant.

Have fun and good luck with it.

Thanks for the info and I'll be taking a look at your thread. I noticed you mention "D150" as the model and I just assumed mine is a D100, which might be an older model. I'll have to take a closer look at mine.

There's more than one thread!

I think the d150 is maybe just the fullsize, longbed 1/2 ton? I think yours might actually be the 'mizer' the cheap bastard version :D

Mine is definitely a cheap one- no radio, rubber floors, 4spd, no maintainance...

D150 and D100 denote the same thing- the truck is a 1/2 ton chassis. Dodge did the same thing with the B-seroies vans- B100 and B150 are the same thing. The named changed in the late 70s or early 80s. It has no bearing on the short or long wheelbase though.

Hi Lou - well now that I actually have a slant something that actually runs and the show 'n' racing is on a Sunday, I should be there!

D100= light duty cheap-ass model that succumbed to federal emissions standards.
D150= "heavy" half ton that for some reason was exempt from the federal emissions standards the D100 had to meet.

If your truck has zero options on it (like mine) it may indeed be a Miser. I love my Miser; there's not a whole lot else to go wrong! But it looks as if your truck has some chrome and body side moulding that my Miser does not. Heck, the only option mine came with was pin stripes. There's not even a radio!

Interesting! Besides the body side moldings, it had an AM/FM radio, cargo light and will have to check on the PS/PB. Had the slant and automatic. Doesn't say anywhere on the truck about "Mizer" Might not be one. I was glancing through the Owners Manual and I see where it says "catalytic converter - if equipped" several times in the manual. I would have thought all vehicles by 87 would have had them.

My youngest son and I took a closer look at the truck this afternoon (he's jealous!). It appears to be a D100 Custom Cab, at least that's what the side emblems say. They appear to be original so guess that's what it is.

Since I acquired this 87 truck from my step-grandson back in Jan, it's basically been sitting due to the cold and snow. Wife and I finally got to DMV to take care of the paperwork. Had to get a battery since grandson wanted his brand new battery back. Once it got gas to the carb, it did fire up and run. My grandson and his Dad swapped the Super Sixed motor and transmission from a 72 Valiant I had given him and they never could get it to run right. When the motor was in the Valiant, it was a sweet running motor. I'm not sure how it's actually running since it has an electronic distributor but no sign of a control box. I see they added a manual choke but I'm eliminating that with a one of those electric choke kits Dan recommends (in fact, just called about 10 minutes ago and ordered it - price has gone up to $49.95 plus shipping). Oh well. Looks like all the charcoal canister hoses are not hooked up so got to do some research on that as well. Got to do more research on how the ignition is wired and the FSM will be handy for it. HEI upgrade could certainly be in it's future. Definitely got to make sure it's ready to go to Hagarstown.

My insurance company questioned the 6th digit in the VIN - it's a "0". They said the 6th digit in the VIN should be a 1 for a 150 series, 2 for a 250 series or 3 for a 350 series. The FSM confirmed that as well. Could it be this truck was some kind of special model since it says it's a D100 Custom on the sides. All I know is that the VIN plate shows a "0" for the 6th digit. Anyway, I'll try to document fixes/upgrades etc to get this poor truck running like it should.
