Would it fit? Does anyone have width numbers? I found an 87 Dakota with 3.55's and a sure grip in a yard. i'd like to put it in the Volare if it would fit. |

I don't think so. I have an F-body rear end i was gonna put in my dart. It has 2.73s, but that is a much narrower rear end than the dakota. I was told in a thread below this, that the dakota rear is 62+ inches. I think that, thats at least 4 inches wider than the F-body rear. You would have to get some wild offset wheels, and that'd still be a squeeze! |

I measured my Volare rear at 59 1/2" drum to drum and the Dakota rear is 63 1/2", 4" to wide. I guess I'll be pulling the gears and sure grip to swap into the volare and I'll have a complete set of 10" brakes for sale. |

A 65-70 B Body 8.75 is almost a drop-in on a FMJ.. The springs need either pushed in or out just a tad and the housing drops in. Pulled a 70 B 8.75 out of the 80 Cordoba I parted out - looked like it was factory installed. At this point in time I don't have a need for the housing but am keeping the 3.23SG from it. |

I really don't want to swap rears, sepecally to an 8 3/4. I don't want to have to get a drive shaft cut, find shock plates... I just want better gears and a sure grip. |

'68-'70 B-body 8 3/4 rear ends are wider than the '65-'67 rear ends. The later rear end is probably a better fit for the FMJ.

I wish you were closer; I'd take that housing/axles off your hands!so in the meantime I'm building a 8-1/4 with 3.55s and a brand new Trac Lok (Spicver's version of a Sure Grip, was OEM for the later years) should be plenty strong for my intentions. |
