thanks. i was told this was a marine engine and was curious if the "R" (PT 225 R) would indicate reverse rotation. the (gift) block is junk, but the head and forged crank are good. if reverse will the head and crank work in normal rotating engine? andy.

The head and crank should be just like a standard rotation engine. Do you have the cam or other parts that might confirm you have a reverse rotation engine?

this came to me with the head, less rocker assembly, timing set, cam and crank only. cylinders rusted and busted, pistons siezed. i haven't yet pulled crank or cam, just removed the rod and main caps and all journals look perfect. will pull those tomorrow and get #s, but if the head and crank will work, than cool, extra parts to play with :D . thanks, andy.

PT 225 R 4 28, on side 2806830-2, 041691 AM.
PT: Passenger car engine made at Trenton engine plant

225: Cubic inch displacement

R: Regular fuel/regular passenger car service

4 28, if it is in fact 4 28, means April 28 production date.
If it is missing a stamped digit, then it breaks out as follows:
4028: August 7, 1972
4128: November 15, 1972
4228: February 23, 1973
4328: June 3, 1973
4428: September 11, 1973
4528: December 20, 1973
4628: March 30, 1974
4728: July 8, 1974
4828: October 16, 1974
4928: January 24, 1975

Not a marine engine. It's amazing the lengths sellers will go to in an effort to avoid having to say "I don't know".

I guess it is a marine engine after all- it would make a great boat anchor.

If it was a "reverse" engine all I can think of is the cam/starter/oil pump?/drive gear for the distributor(and distributor) would be backwards. Rest of the engine would be the same.
