Post subject:  How to richen mixture slightly?

I changed the spark plugs on my '63 Valiant and noticed that the plugs were a little on the white side, so I'd like to richen the mixture a little bit. Can someone tell me where the air/fuel mixture screw is located and how much to turn it (and in which direction)?

Also, does anyone know how to adjust the choke? Mine isn't closing completely when cold, leading to a hard start when cold.

Thanks very much,
Rebecca.

It's not that easy Rebecca. If you really have a lean condition, the fix requires changing the jet(s) in the carburator. You can do this by removing the top cover of the carb. There is a mixture screw on the side, but that adjusts the idle mixture only.

If your choke thermostat or bimetal is OK, then adjustment usually requires bending the linkage to give a specified choke setting with the car cold. The fast idle setting must also be correct.
