Has anyone installed the transmission kick-down and throttle linkage from a super six from an Aspen into an early-A body?

I have no problem installing the hanging accelerator pedal and cable, but I'm not sure the kick-down lever on the pushbutton 904 is in the same location as the later 904's, or if there is clearance with the older body style.

My donor car is sitting flat on the ground, so I can't easily get under it to measure everything. I would appreciate comments from others who have done this swap.

i have done it in my '63 dart about 10 years ago. i remember i used the link from the aspen. i made it work by heating and bending is but never got it quite right (i didn't really know what i was doing.) you may need to cut and weld it to fit properly. i think i eventually put a b+m kit in and wired the kickdown lever to hold it in the foward position so i would just shift it manually. hope this helps.

I tried this too on my '66. The stock F-body rod will hit the firewall. I unwisely cut the kickdown rod in an attempt to splice it into the stock linkage, and finally gave up and ordered a Lokar kickdown cable. What I have now works, but were I to do it over again I'd heat and bend the rod as that would have been easier. The important thing is to get the range of motion correct - it mustn't be so long it buckles at WOT, or so short the kickdown lever jerks it up short.

The Lokar linkage was a pain to install as I had to work in an area where the torsion bar and exhaust pipe blocked a lot of the access, and then it either needs a custom bracket to adapt it to the carb, or a little creativity to get it to go on the gas pedal like a second throttle cable (which is what I did). It still could probably use a little adjusting as I've got too much tension and it stays in gear too long and shifts a little hard - but that's better than the opposite.
