Much to my dismay I have found some very serious rust issues throughout my 64 Valiant. Very bad rear quarters, and the floor. I am not a welder but having worked on boats most of my life I am pretty good with fiberglass. Does anyone see any issues with taking the floor, brushing it clean, (has lots of small holes} painting it with one of the rust products like por or rocket, and then fiber-glassing the entire area with several layers of matting? ( I already have plenty of glass and matting) Seems to me like it would be very strong and less expensive than floor pans which are hard to find. As far as the rear quarters, I am at a loss on what do with those. They are so far gone the patch wont work and I havent been able to find the whole quarter for this year. Another option, and maybe cheaper is to find a good donor car. Anyway any thoughts would be appreciated...thanks Mark |

I have repaired smaller holes in the floor with fiberglass after the area was sandblasted and it has held up well. I have also made molds off a good car to make patch panels for rust repair. The rear gravel pan and both lower rear quarters on my old 62 Valiant race car were a one piece fiberglass part. |

Yea, I was actually thinking of shaping up the the rear quarter with bondo and then cutting it out and then making a fiber glass mold. A lot of work but it seems like parts for pre 67 a bodies are hard to come by. And thanks for the reply. |

Por-15's Floor pan repair kit is basically the same thing using fiberglass mat and resin. Frank |

I've had poor luck with the common polyester resin fiberglass and better luck with epoxy-based fiberglass; the polyester stuff seemed to always break free from the steel during the long cold Michigan winters (likely due to thermal expansion coefficient differences). The POR-15 is different from both, equally strong, and seems to work quite well. |

I don't use polyester resin either.......POR-15 as a resin is much better and over the past 6 years....no rust has reappeared. You have to use their 3 step process and do both sides. Go for it...... |
