I have seen posts from some slanters about using 250 @0.050 int. duration camshafts on the street. - What would the total operating range be on a camshaft this size? - What makes a camshaft this size more streetable on a slant six compared to a v-8 where 250 @ 0.050 is considered quite large Thanks for any info |

It heavily depends on the rest of your combo. Ballpark is 3000-6000 RPM. Lou |

Engine is 10.5:1, 0.045 protru piston, K1 rod, Engnbldr valves, good valve job with port work. 390cfm 4150 carb, headers. Car is 2800 with driver, 4.10 axle. My main reason for asking is after talking to a local torque convertor shop (SMR Transmissions), They advised that for 3000 stall, I should go with a camshaft that starts making power in the 2500 rpm range. I have read on the site, that camshafts have different operating ranges in Slant 6's compared to a v-8. SMR's reccomendation was for something in the 225-230 * range, which I assume is based on his experience with v-8's. Thanks for the replys. |

225s can take more duration than a V8 and have lower powerband. If this is mostly a drag car with some street duty, get a 3400 RPM stall and use a 240 - 250 @ 0.050" range cam. Personally, I have had no problem driving something like this on the street, although not commuting every day. Lou |

Me... I would never run that much cam in my daily driver street car. I build street engines for low RPM and torque... an engine that starts right-up, has a decent idle, super "crisp" throttle responce and off-idle "pull" right off the line. DD |

Okay, thanks guys for the info. So, a 250* 105LSA, camshaft installed at 102 LCA, would give me a basic operating range of 3000-6000? Would having that camshaft in at 100 LCA give me something more like 2700-5700? |

Doug is right. I would never run that cam in my daily driver street car either, but in a limited street car, I have no problem. If you are worried about streetability and RPM range, just drop down to 235 or 240 @ 0.050". I'd degree it at 100 anyway. You will not get much below 3000 with a 250 cam, regardless of where the LCA is set. I have played with this a lot, and it does matter, but you can't have everything. Lou |

For the Price of a NEW group buy Erson cam or even a regrind. You will be much happier with a new cam set up for your combo than trying to make that one work. I live out in the sticks so its 18 miles to town. Frank |
