I hope this is the right place to ask this. I have a 1987 dodge ramcharger with a 360/727. Yesterday I blew the tranny. I found a d150 with a a998-999 tranny with lockup converter. they guy wants $200 for the whole truck including a good spare 318. My question is how do it make the lockup tranny work behind the 360?

Everything should bolt up although the A998/999 might not live too well behind the 360... also your 360 is externally balanced so you will need a Lockup A904/A998/A999 torque convertor for a 360...

Could I possibly just weld the weight to the 318 convertor?

There is a balancing kit available, I believe from Mopar Performance that will do what you need. It bolts to the flex plate if I remember correctly.

I had the same problem once with a 69 Dart; I ended up having a slug of steel welded on to the converter. It wasn't pretty but it worked.

Sounds like its doable, but do any of you guy's have some ideas on driveshaft lenght and getting the lock-up converter to work, or will it be ok to run it unlocked?

is the Ramcharger a 4X4? If so then the D series trans wont work (2WD)
Personally I have done several 904/999>727 swaps but never the other way around.

Do not weld to a lock-up converter. You will ruin the clutch material in the converter. Get a B&M or other counter weighted flex plate.

The ramcharger is 2 wheel drive and so is the parts truck. I'll check on the counterweighted flex plate but it's starting to sound like I should just have the 727 rebuilt! Lots less trouble and about the same money.

And you'll end up with a better transmission. Plan B looks good.
