How does the kickdown linkage work and will I damage the trans if I run for a few days with it disconnected ?

How do you adjust it ?

thanks

i dont know how it works internally, but if you slide it all the way in one direction, it will have the effect of delaying the shift point. if you slide it all the way the other direction, the trans will shift super early. it will also affect at what speed vs % of throttle the transmission will still kickdown. i wouldnt run without one. when looking at the throttle plate, you'll see a metal rod extending down towards the transmission. on that rod will be a nut that sits in a channel/slot. that's where you adjust the kickdown. if your car is a 1bbl anyways. I don't remember which direction does what (makeing the rod a bit longer, or a bit shorter) but its pretty easy. Kickdown adjustment was one of the first things i learned on my car. make an adjustment, drive up the street. repeat until satisfied. if you have an fsm, it will tell you the factory prescribed speeds for shifts.
