I have a 65 Valiant Signet hardtop with 69,000 original miles. I would like more oil pressure so I purchased a Mopar Performance oil pump. The new pump is about a quarter inch longer and I am worried about frame/k-member interference. If anybody has ever installed one of these pumps successfully in a narrow A-body I would love to know before I start this job.

You will have no problems unless your right motor mount is really hanging down or busted. You will have to really raise your engine to get it in (off of mounts), or possibly even disconnect the engine from the trans, but likely not. Your oil pressure may not go up if you have bad bearings - just a warning.

Cheers,

Lou

Why? What makes you think you need more oil pressure? If everything's working correctly, as it should be with just 69k miles on the car, you do not need more oil pressure and it will not be beneficial.

Maybe your red "OIL" warning light is turning on at idle. Some '63-'65 6 cars had the oil pressure sender screwed into the block, back by the firewall. This location was troublesome, and there was a technical service bulletin calling for the installation of a new sender in the usual end-of-oilpump location. Not all cars had this done, however; I've run into cars with the sender in the "wrong" location. Even in the "right" location, some senders are "itchy" and will cause the light to turn on when there's no actual loss of oil pressure. And don't forget this is a ground-switched system, so if the sender wire touches ground anywhere along its length, the light comes on!

What problem is it that you're trying to solve?

The replacement pump will clear the K-frame but these are tough to install with the engine in the car.
Have you checked the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge, readings as low as 15-20 psi at idle are OK with 45-55 psi after 2000 RPM expected.
Off idle pressure can be adjusted by shimming the relief valve spring but be forwarned, for some reason we are seeing many aftermarket oil pump gear failures. (the gears do not seem to be as hard as the original ones)
Keep the pressure reasonable to prevent problems.
