I have a few more questions about turbos; -There is 2 sizes of turbos that come on the Supercoupes right? Which is better? -What intercoolers are you all using? -I have to make a "bonnet" to go into the carbs, (Dual Webber DCNVH 36's)What should this be made out of? -Thanks in advance, Tom B. tommyb1515@aol.com |

I prefer the turbo with the .63A/R housing. It's a little larger than the .48 housing, and won't spool quite as fast. This is the same size housing that is used on the Buick GN which has a 3.8 liter motor. The buick turbo would actually make more power, as it has a slightly larger compressor wheel. But they usually don't come quite as cheap, and seem to be a bit harder to find. For an intercooler I used 3 Saab 900 turbo cores, which is probably a bit of overkill, but you really can't have too big of an intercooler. Again the Buick GN cooler would be about the right size if you just want one to bolt in. As far as your bonnets, that will depend on the shape of those carbs. Can't say I'm familiar with the openning on those. If you are good at fabricating, you can use some aluminum pipe or a similar material. I am using a propane mixer with a propane bonnet(which happens to be the same size as a Holley 4bbl on top). Again, it will depend on your carb openning. Tom sschultz@telusplanet.net |

I heard that the 5 speed TC turbos were a touch larger. Dont hold me to it. As far as the carb bonnets go, look around some of the dune buggy crowds. I saw one with the same carbs your running on a Turbo VW motor. TJSzubart@Excite.com |

The 5-speed ones came with a 0.63 AR, which is better for a slant six. The automatic ones had a 0.48 AR. : : -What intercoolers are you all using? One off a Turbo II K-car. I tried ziptieing it to the radiator but it's starting to come loose, so I will have to find a better means of attaching it. The outlets also don't point quite the way I would like them to. But it was only around $10, and any intercooler is better than none. |
