Post subject:  71 Duster Ignition Confusion

I'm having some trouble with my Duster's ignition system. Forgive me, I'm feeling like an idiot and can't figure this out.

From one side of my coil is a circular piece of metal that then bolts to the block on the alternator bracket. I can't figure out what this is. One side of the coil runs to the distributor, the other side has this thing, and then coming from the battery or wherever. I've attached a picture.

a) What is it?
b) What does it do?
c) Is there a NAPA number for it?

Again, I'm feeling like a total idiot on this, but I appreciate the help. I just don't see it in wiring diagrams I've found elsewhere.

Radio noise suppression capacitor. Its job is to reduce ignition noise in the radio. If it shorts out, you can get problems. But aside from radio noise, there is no ill effect of removing this dingus altogether. You can't get an exact replacement from NAPA, but you can get a functional equivalent that's not hard to mount, Echlin p/n RC-1.

Oh Dan, you make me smile. I greatly appreciate it.

My dog's nick-name is "dingus," by the way.
