Any opinions on highway driveability for 3:55 vs. 3:90, I like power, but also want to be able to drive a couple hours to shows. Will the 3:90 be too high revving along for highway. It seems I only hit about 4000 in my 198. Thanks for your help! |

This will help you work what revs you'll be doing at what speed. http://vexer.com/automotive-tools/speed-rpm-calculator If it was me I'd go with the 3.55's |

I don't even like 3.55s for freeway driving. I like 3.23s much better. It depends a lot on what you can stand for 2 hours. |

Mr Scamp, I have 3.55 gears turning 14 inch tires in my 67 Dart. I find that 55 to 60 mph @ around 3000 rpm is a bit busy on a long haul. Where I don’t use my car for a daily driver I can put up with the annoyance motoring 100 miles or so one way to car shows on weekends. With this car’s Turbo Sonic mufflers singing loudly, I generally stuff my ears with those foam hearing protection plugs, making a much more enjoyable journey, particularly when the tachometer drops into the head rattling, resonating, 2500 rpm range. 2.23 gears would drop my 55 - 60 mph rpm about 300 revs. Where you want to be rpm wise at cruse depends on your cam and toque curve. For a stock engine, I should think 3.90 would be way too much gear. |
