Any opinions on highway driveability for 3:55 vs. 3:90, I like power, but also want to be able to drive a couple hours to shows. Will the 3:90 be too high revving along for highway. It seems I only hit about 4000 in my 198. Thanks for your help!

This will help you work what revs you'll be doing at what speed.

If it was me I'd go with the 3.55's

I don't even like 3.55s for freeway driving. I like 3.23s much better. It depends a lot on what you can stand for 2 hours.

Mr Scamp,

I have 3.55 gears turning 14 inch tires in my 67 Dart. I find that 55 to 60 mph @ around 3000 rpm is a bit busy on a long haul. Where I don’t use my car for a daily driver I can put up with the annoyance motoring 100 miles or so one way to car shows on weekends. With this car’s Turbo Sonic mufflers singing loudly, I generally stuff my ears with those foam hearing protection plugs, making a much more enjoyable journey, particularly when the tachometer drops into the head rattling, resonating, 2500 rpm range.

2.23 gears would drop my 55 - 60 mph rpm about 300 revs. Where you want to be rpm wise at cruse depends on your cam and toque curve. For a stock engine, I should think 3.90 would be way too much gear.
