i have an 84 dodge d150 with a slant id like to use an older style cylinder head if i could is that possible? i have the cylinder head with the hardened seat and the peanut plugs but but id like to get an old one from the pick and pull and have the intake and exhausts ports gasket matched for better flow. any tips? thanks -frank |

Gasket matching is nearly worthless if you aren't also doing porting work under the valves. The exception is if there is a serious casting flaw that is impeding flow through the port. Was there any other reason for wanting to swap heads? |

84 engine has hydraulic lifters you will need to swap the rocker arms and push rods |

mainly because the themostat was never changed in it when i got it so when i took the housing off to replace it i cracked part of it it coming off and it constantly leaks coolant even after i've welded it ,not alot but a slow drip.also too i was told the older heads make more power? |

All the '67 and later heads have the same combustion chamber so, no, the earlier head does not necessarily make more power. You broke the head at the thermostat housing area? |

yea the bolts for the themostat we like fused together so naturally the heads on the bolts broke right off so i drilled out the back on and as i was drilling the one up front the eyelet snapped off. |

Sounds like all you need is to drill out the other bolt and put on a new thermostat housing, no where near as much money or effort as a head change. Unless you mean the head itself broke. |
