OK, Folks Time for a poll, I just got a call from Ross, at Quick Time, and the engineering is done on a slant six bell housing. Eventually, you will be able to get the housing for just about ANY trans you want to put behind a slant. Whether it be a Ford, GM, Mopar. 4,5,6 speed, stick or auto.
Right now Ross wants to know, which one to produce first. So, lets hear your choices.
I have to get back to him on Monday 4-19-2010.

High starter position or low? Low starter in an early A-body seems like it would crowd the headers and/or clutch linkage.

If this modular bellhousing were made for 122 tooth flywheels, high starter, A833 trans and SFI approved I'd call with my credit card number today. I need something SFI approved or I have to build my own scatter shield for the Bonneville Barracuda. If I could later use this bellhousing with a T-5 I'd be thrilled.

I recently sold all of my /6 stuff so I don't have a fish to fry here but my opinion would be that the T-5 tranny would be the one to do because that is what a ton of the questions have been about over the years.

Of course, an A-833 four speed also makes some sense for the racing crowd who need a SFI bell.

Will have the high starter location. It will be available for the A833 trans, along with many other transmissions. Just want to get a consensis on which one to make first.

I think it is great that you worked with Ross and got the project this far. Once again it seems like the T-5 has been the transmission of choice for a long time. I'm not sure if there are different flavors of the T-5 which would require a different bellhousing or not though. I'm not that deep into those transmissions.

The T45 would also be a cool transmission to use but it would be a lot more expensive to purchase. I think that T-5 transmissions can be found fairly cheap in wrecking yards in a variety of cars.

I'd be interested in one for my HAMBster, particularly if it's SFI level. I mount a stock 3 sp gearbox, so modifiable for that would be acceptable.

it's seems like T-5 and 833 are good choices,I personally prefer 833.will it be avalible for the 833 o-d in the future?

With a bellhousing to mount a T5 tranny, all we would need next is someone to make custom crossmembers to support 'em!

Keisler's lower X-member is supposed to work with a T5, if they will sell you that individual part.

I vote for the T5 first since folks have been asking about those BH's consistently.

Yes, they will have to pick a depth to match a certain T5, or make different rings to mount the pilot bearing in the crank at different depths. '79-93 Mustang T5 has 7.18" from mating surface to tip of the input shaft, and that is the shortest. V6 T5s of Ford and GM variety have around 7.8" input.

IIRC, the T45 has the same front mounting as the T5, but don't hold me to that.

My personal preference would be for them to make plates for a 4spd auto (like the GM 4360... or?) and a T56 6spd.

Usually on aftermarket deals like this the best course is to go with the transmission that sold in the highest volumes. So if the Mustang used a T-5 for 14 years (1979 to 1993) then that is probably a fairly high volume unit. The higher the production volume the better in terms of finding the parts at a good price.

Andy

Wow! No more slant six.

Thanks, though, for monitoring the board and jumping in.

Your knowledge and experience is invaluable, and you make great products, too!

Andy,

Yes, they made millions of T5 for Mustangs, and only changed the input length a bit on 94-up. They may still be using it on V6's??

This was a big reason I picked it.

The first SFI housings will be for the Mustang t-5 They should be available in about 4-6 weeks. After that will probably be for the Mopar 3, 4, and 4 OD trans. The GM 4 speed OD auto, will also be available in the near future.

Sounds great, Charlie.

Which T5 are they using for their input shaft length dimension? Mustang 5.0L T5 (7.18")? This is probably the most common trans. Only problem is that if you have a longer input, you may have an issue mounting the pilot brg in your crank. Could go into the stock crank pocket, though.

Thanks,

Lou

Ross said it would be for the "common" trans. I think he was talking about the earlier one you mentioned.
