Heres the details after many questions on here. 85 block 40 over bore. new pistons and molly rings. decked .050. RV 2 reground cam don't know the specs ask them (Oregon Cam) for a cam card didn't get one guess this is the way it is with the regrinders. guess i will install it dot to dot and check the TDC with degree wheel. 85 head redone. i missed my goal of 9/1 CR the shop decked it before i got to refigure with the 40 over pistons. going in 71 dart. with super six setup and 904 with L/U. New melling std. press oil pump. Any pointers from u guys on things to watch out for. also how does the lifters get oil to be pumped up. the SBs have oil press. to them. these just have bores with no supply? Think i will be able to run Reg, gas? Anybody used this cam will it be ok with AC i would like to add that on too. making a daily driver. Thanks for any replys |

The lifters lube through the push rods- they should be hollow, also either remove the old gear from the old oil pump and put it on the new pump or get a hardened gear from "DOC" for the new pump. |

yes the push rods are hollow. that doesn't seem like enough oil to keep them pumped up. i have been reading on here about the oil pump gear. thought it was a hi press. pump that needed the hardened gear. so the old gears are good? and i should use them on any new pump? |

A used OP gear made "back in the day" by Chrysler's supplier(s) are made from better quality cast iron... they Rockwell test "harder" then the gears we find on replacement pumps these days. If the gear on an old used factory pump is not showing any wear after hunderds of thousands of miles... that is a good sign that it is a high quality cast iron gear that will go many more miles. You just do not know what will happen with the new gear on a replacement pump. I also have OP gears that have been case hardened (carborized) by a professional heat treater, send me a PM if you would like to buy one of those gears. DD |

ok i have 2 or 3 OP laying around. i will pull those gears and use the best one. Doc. i did one of your mods to the block. i drilled a small hole over the fuel pump lobe. when i pulled the old cam out it had a grove in it from the fuel pump lever. so i agree that lobe needs more oil. i also decked the block instead of the head as you advised. this is my first slant so i am trying to learn and pay attention to you guys as i go. going to the shop today and get my rods with the new pistons pressed on. |
