Do I need to drain coolant from my /6 to change intake/exhaust manifolds? Do any of the bolts or studs go into water passages? Thanks |

Yes, there are head-to-manifold studs that go into the water jacket, but they 'should' stay in place. |

So if the studs don't break loose, I can get away without draining or not? |

No need to drain if they stay in place.

True, you don't have to drain if the studs stay in place. But I've found it's easier to drain ahead of time, then you can focus on finishing the job at hand, rather than cleaning up antifreeze off the garage floor. |
