Has anyone done the conversion of an AL 1 bbl manifold to a 2 bbl manifold? If so, has it lasted or did it begin to leak? The info here shows the use of JB Weld, etc to see the adapter plate. I am giving this some thought. I DO have the cast iron 2 bbl intake but I wouldn't mind giving the intake/exhaust manifolds a diet. In a truck installing that pair is a bear which extracts some pain from the installing party. I have a pesky manifold leak which I plan on Remflexing into submission. Three years is what I got for service from the FelPro gasket. |

I've never converted a 1bbl intake to a 2bbl intake, I've only read about it. An article that I read said to weld the new carb mounting surface to the intake after you finish cutting. However, JB Weld might work just fine. If you want to lose a few pounds in your truck, you might think about installing an aluminum intake. |

I read the same thing. I'm not convinced that the filthy and old 1 bbl aluminum manifold could ever be cleaned well enough to get a good weld bead on it and the adapter plate. I'll look around for a 2 bbl AL manifold, or more likely just take aspirin before, during, and after the gasket swap. Damn that FelPro gasket set! Hopefully the Remflex gasket lives up to its reputation. |

Here is one that I built using JB Weld. It holds just fine. If you look close, it is bolted too. Had it on but it's off now while I work on other things. Need to work out linkage too. Just throttled by hand in the driveway while I had it running. http://s968.photobucket.com/home/obe1kanoby There are quite a few threads on here about this if you search. Maybe "one barrel to two barrel"? By the way, it is cast iron, not aluminum but should make no difference. I was gonna use an aluminum but didn't want to waste one so this was an experiment. I like the diet idea too. |

Thanks for the link to what you did. It looks pretty solid and follows the general notion of really only relying on the JB Weld to serve as a sealer more than a mechanical fastener. I think I may give it a shot and see about converting the 1 bbl manifold into a 2 bbl. It should help out in the weight department just a tad. I think JB Weld is rated to 400 degrees F so it should be ok for the intake. |

There're a couple pictures of a thinwall manifold conversion done with screws and epoxy in this link (sorry I didn't take a more comprehensive set of the plate mods). Couple years on the road now, with no problems. |

Thanks Old Rodder. Looking at these pictures makes it apparent that this can be done with good success. Like most things I imagine taking your time, cleanliness, and preparation is the key. Looks like I am hacking and cutting soon. Does anyone know if JB Weld is as good as it gets or is there something better than JB Weld? I have had good luck with JB Weld when used as directed but I wonder if there is something even better... |

ive changed my exhaust manifold 2 times on my truck from 1 bbl set ups i take the intake and exhaust apart. its been a yr and still running fine. you mite have to heat the bolts holding them together |

these pictures helped me alot, the carb set up was all different on my 63. will adjust and get back to everyone.

Pretty interesting idea. The thought never even occurred to me to convert a 1 barrel to a 2 barrel. I have a couple intakes in the basement, I kinda feel like tinkering anyways. Anyone have a good idea as to what would be an optimal thickness to make the adapter plate? Apparently it is a functional carb spacer to. I have a bunch of steel and a CNC. |

I recently scored this, made from a 1960 aluminum 1bbl intake: And this nice new 1.08" Motorcraft 2100 to try out on it: This carb's intended application is 1974 Ford truck/van with 302 V8, so it's not a relatively primitive '60s carb and will stand up well to today's fuel formulations. The integral choke is easily electrified, too! |

Interesting work. Screwed and glued as it were? So, it looks to me that the 1 bbl boss was removed, some "milling" or at least flattening occurred, and then the 2 bbl plate was screwed (or bolted) on with some epoxy underneath it, It looks surprisingly well done. |

Haven't had a chance to scrutinise it closely yet, but what interests me is the arrangement of the four bolts…which look like they're on a standard BBD/2280/WW3 2bbl pattern. |

Whoa! Nice score Dan! Seeing all these pics kinda makes me want to experiment/hack up/butcher one of the extra 1bbl intakes in my garage. That carb looks good too! |
