Post subject:  1 field regulator question

The car I have was running when I got it. We pulled it all apart, now we are rebuilding it. I noticed the field and ignition wires are reversed on the regulator. It also rattled, so I took the lid off it, and it was burnt.

Will a regulator work with the 2 wires reversed?

Supposedly, it worked acc. to the previous owner.

It won't work correctly. The wires need to be the right way round. Read about regulator options for the single-field system here.

Between the reversed wires and the burnt regulator interior (was an aftermarket one)....somethings obviously not right.

I'll tell ya' the absolute worst thing is finding / correcting your way through a rats nest wiring harness that has been bodged over many, many times in the past 40 yrs, by people of little knowledge. scary.

The reason I got this car is "someone" did a disk brake mod for the PO. He went to hit the brakes and they didn't work. He said he had a good pedal though. After looking around, we noticed the brake pushrod was mounted on the wrong side of the brake pedal AND was not seated into the MC piston! amazing he didn't get killed.

Thanks for the info!!!!!
