Post subject:  Rebuilt /6 Running ROUGH???

Just rebuilt my 225 and its doing the same as before. Rebuilt all stock, new pistons, rings, bearings, valves w/hardened seats, oil pump, timing set, carb, electronic ignition, etc, etc.
PROBLEM: Starts up and runs fine but when it gets hot it gets wacko! Idle slows, doesn't want to idle, carb adjustment has no effect on engine when it gets hot but the opposite when its cold or warming up. When driving along (after heated up) it stalls when you stop. Have played around with the timing, carb adjustment, and timing but nothing seems to help. Also, gets noisy when hot.
Need help!

hey,
well check for vaccum leaks because when an engine has a vaccum leak it may not show when cold and on fast idle with the choke partly closed, alittle more info on the noise that it gives off when warm will be a big help, is it exhaust, does it run smooth as soon as you put your foot on the gas, go to the rear when the engine is warm and at idle and listen for pops in the exhaust system to see if its missing, if it is then my guess is it could be a bad ignition component. also look around for obvious things, whats your timing set at??, try readjusting the idle when its warm to around 800rpm and see if that helps, try setting the adjustment screws on the carb, do this by turning them in until they lightly seat then back them out 2 1/2 turns or so to get a base point, then turn each one in a 1/4 turn at a time until it starts to idle down and run really rough then back them out 1/2 turn each, set the idle and then turn each screw in 1/4 turn at a time again until it runs rough then back them out 1/2 again and your finished with that. try a complete tune up if not already done, there could be a hundred things that can cause and engine to run like crap, these are just things to try. if you can give some more information on what the symptoms are and that will help me/us out some

What kind of noise?

It could be a vacuum leak, does it have an e-beam welded intake manifold on it?

Are the valves adjusted correctly?

Was the distributor replaced along with the rebuild? (worn shaft)

Does it run better if you wire the choke part way closed when it starts to go "wacko"?
