Post subject:  what voltage at the coil?

for this 65 were working on. I'm still playing around with the electrics.
I installed the new voltage regulator and horn relay today. some progress. Someone installed a Mopar Perf. electronic ignition, so there are some more wiring bodges to deal with.

In my "pre-first start" checklist; I checked the voltage at the ballast resistor with the key in the ON position....it has just shy of 10v. The batter voltage is at 12.1 v.

I THOUGHT the ballast resistor would have 12v in the "start' position, then 6 in the run position. Is that correct? But only for points?

I assume the ballast resistor was changed for the MP electronic ignition.....so what should the voltage be? 10 or 6?

No. The ballast resistor is bypassed during cranking by a separate wire.

It's a ballast resistor; its output changes depending on load and load profile. Your 10v reading sounds about right.

yes...no load measurement. I just stinks working on other peoples mods.

Thanks for the help Dan!!!
