Wait til after dark, use flashlite open door spray nest
When its cool outside they don't fly, this is what I do.

My truck has a wasp nest in one of the inner fenders close to the door. Long story short I HATE wasps and would like to kill the nest. i've been killing the ones flying around with pb blaster, brake parts cleaner, spray paint or whatever I have in my reach. As for the nest i cant get it with spray but, I have a idea to kill them all it involves a tarp and a box of bug bombs the kind used to kill fleas in a house. Any other ideas?? |

I will assume this isn't a daily driver. If it was, they wouldn't have built there, or would have abandoned the beginnings of the nest in short order. Is the nest up inside the wheelwell, or back behind the fender where it is hard to access? Wasps can't see well, if at all, in darkness, and almost all of them will be in the nest after sundown. Use this to your advantage. (Those that aren't in the nest didn't get back in time, and had to find a form of shelter for the night. When they do get back, and find the nest destroyed, they'll go in search of somewhere different.) Get a can of GOOD wasp/hornet spray(Raid or Black Flag). Wait until nightfall, arm yourself with an inspection mirror, flashlight, and the spray. Use the flashlight and mirror to locate where the nest is, then spray the hell out of it. DO NOT allow any part of yourself to be directly under the nest when you do this. Even the good sprays, (lately at least), don't kill on contact. They still have about 20 seconds that they can still sting you. If the nest happens to be behind the fender, but you can gain access by opening the door, do so slowly and gently. Most times, they won't get alarmed by using this technique. FWIW, I, too had a terrible fear of them damn things, and my skin still crawls and scalp gets that "prickly" feeling when I hear one whizz by my head. BUT.....it's MY DAMN GARAGE, and them little bastards are NOT gonna chase me out, so I've gotten much better about this little phobia we both have. (I figure if I end up going to hell after I die, the devil will make his appearance to me in the form of a giant, 7-foot paper wasp.) Hey....lookit that....this was post #1000 for me.  )Roger |

Sounds simple, but....make sure you move it every day, even if that means to a different side of the street/driveway. The little suckers don't like moving objects for nest making. I have a black widow spider epidemic on my property and the wasps and I have a truce. I don't jack with them and I telegraph to them what is what is not an acceptable place to build a nest, by moving stuff around that I don't want nests in. They, in turn, kill A LOT of spiders. Now yellow jackets...they all die. The damn things are too aggressive. They'll come after you for just getting close to their nest, and homey don't play dat. |

Thanks those are some good tips. The head it in the shop so moving it would be difficult but, i will try a mirror. It cant be that big as there were no wasps in/near it when i removed the head but that was three weeks ago so i don't know. there going in and out of the grill where the windshield wipers are and i saw one inside. |

*************************************************************Oh, NOOooo.....THAT'S going to make it tougher. It sounds like they've decided to build in the cowl vent, and that area reaches all the way across the width of the vehicle, and it would give them access to the interior air vents. It's also possible they built deeper in, in a duct under the dashboard. You just might have to do the bug bomb thing, inside the vehicle, and tape over that cowl vent when you do.
