Hi Everyone! I'm new to the forum, but not to Dodge Darts! I just purchased a 1967 Dodge Dart 270 with a slant 6 225 engine, single barrel carb. It was sitting in a garage for many years, only being driven a few times a year.
My son and I changed the cap, rotor, plugs, air, oil & fuel filters, oil, radiator fluid (we did not do a flush). We have a miss in the engine, it runs hot when the car is not moving (probably the thermostat. I don't think I've ever had a Dart where I haven't had to change it) and hesitation, almost to a stall, when given gas. When I take the pressure off the gas pedal slightly it seems to pick up, but give it more gas and the same problem occurs. Can anyone help?

Welcome on the board. Your problem is probably a faulty accelerator pump in the carburetor. Do not turn it in as a core, and do not buy a "remanufactured" carburetor; they're junk. Carburetor operation and repair manuals and links to training movies and carb repair/modification threads are posted here for free download. Tune-up parts and technique recommendations are in this thread; give it a lookover and use it as a checklist against what you've already done (did you remember to remove the spark plug ring washers…?). The engine needs periodic careful valve adjustment. Make sure to get appropriate service manuals as soon as you can.

Thanks so much for the reply and info. I'm guessing in my 1967 Dart 225 I have a Holley 1920? Actually, my son & I did NOT change the spark plug washers! Thanks for the reminder! I've got some manuals on CD coming within the next week or so.

Did you check the vacuum advance "pod" on the distributor, is it working correctly?
Also check the distributor's machanical advance to be sure the engine gets spark advance as the RPM's increase.

Since we are supposed to get some SNOW this weekend I'll be able to pull it in the garage and take a good look at the distributor, plugs (and remove the rings), and the type of carburetor I have. Again thanks for the great advice & assistance!
