Another slightly off topic question anyone with experience on a "do it yourself" garage floor coating project. The local Lowes carries Rust-Oleum and Quickrete epoxy floor coatings The Rust-O brand has two color choices,, the Quik has 30,, anyone have experience with these products or doing this in general? The prices to have this done professionally is not in the budget, but It looks like I could do a 2 car garage myself for around 150,, which fits my wallet. thanks |

Clean, degrease, dry, repeat, repeat, etc. Apply product following all directions on can. Enjoy your lovely floor. Pick up a can for repairs, etc |

Check out http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/ - this has been discussed several times over there. IIRC the cheaper coatings will lift when you park a driven car (hot tires) over it. |

Dadtruck's garage is new construction (lucky dog) so the cleaning will not be as bad as a floor that has had vehicles parked on it. How is it progressing? |

yep have some new construction going,, to house a "new to me vehicle", I'll still be known here as DadTruck, but I also now have a 68 fastback Barracuda, slant powered, all original, 40K miles,, long story but it is a local find. Been in storage since 1972,,, now its mine and I'm building a garage for it and the 83 D-150,,,,, regards, |

Epoxy based finishes when applied properly will stand up much better - I had my entire basement coated and have never regretted it - if you want color you could also talk to your concrete finisher and have him dye your concrete and then have him seal it not unlike any driveway you may have seen - the sealers stand up well and resist most car fluids. Paint will eventually give you trouble in my experience and need repair. I'd check the difference in concrete pricing first and then lean towards the epoxy finishes if the concrete solution is too expensive. Also ensure your floor wont crack over time - not always easy to ensure but I strongly recommend reinforcing material - mesh or fiber mesh or cut the floor - I hate cracks and if you paint it the crack will look awful if one ever appears. I do not know the answer-- but here in Wichita we have a company that polishes the concrete & it looks amazing!!! I just thought I would through that out as an idea, Lawrence |

If you have your concrete contractor power trowel the floor it will shine like a mirror. This finish looks great once sealed but can be slippery when fluids reside on the surface - the same holds true for paint and the epoxy finishes - I had my garage floor power troweled and then sealed it with Thompson's as I recall - easy to sweep and definately the cheapest way to go. |

I used the Quikcrete on my garage nearly 4 years ago, when it was brand new and so far so good; I do have one spot that "lifted" almost right after I did the coating; but my stand up freezer now covers that spot! I have had lots of vehicles back n forth over this stuff, and other than when I "chirped" the tires on my kid's Ramcharger, it has no black marks from hot rubber yet. I do need to get everything out (empty the garage) once I get me another power washer and hose down the floor; Brake Clean and rags are gettin expensive..... |

thanks for the feedback on the quickcrete, with what I have gleaned from the garage journal forum, great info there also, I'm putting together a decision matrix on the various products, I'll post when I have it done |
