I'm in the process of restoring a 1973 Plymouth Valiant and was wondering if anyone out there could easily explain to me the evolution of the Slant 6 throughout the 1970's in regards to it's loss of horsepower.The Mopar Slant Six Engines page on allpar.com has a grid which shows the varying levels of horsepower the Slant 6 put out throughout the 60's and 70's. From 1971 to 1972 it shows the 225 dropping from 145hp to 110hp. Can anyone out there explain this to me? Are there any ways to recover the lost horsepower? Would there be any cons to trying to emulate the setup of a pre-1971 Slant 6 in a 73? Are there any online guides for trying to do so? I'd love to better understand! Thanks!!
