How much hp/torque can a 67 A-body take before really needing subframe connectors? I don't plan to hit the drag strip a lot, but I think it only takes one shot to bend it if it hooks hard enough.
If recommended... What aftermarket BOLT in type do you guys recommend? I know weld in ones are better, and I may do a bolt/weld in combo. I really don't want to pull the seats and carpet just yet.

I don't think you'll bend anything irreversibly unless you have 500+ HP and do many launches with sticky tires. Subframe connectors are mostly to control elastic flex of the unibody, but it returns to its original shape as soon as you let off.

The thing I noticed about subframe connectors is that they softened up my formerly harsh suspension, I assume by transferring loads to the suspension rather than having them taken up by the body flexing. Maybe it will help transfer engine torque to the wheels rather than having it taken up by body flex. I don't know if the amount would be enough to improve e.t. Could be a good Science Fair project. 8)

Has anyone installed sub-frame connectors on an early A-body convertible? Mine has a fair amount of body flex that I would like to address while the interior is stripped for restoration.

I have a 67 vert that I installed bolt on sub-frame connectors fall of 2008. The car now feels as it is of one, rather than a front & rear attached by a hinge some where behind the front seat.

Where I installed a front anti sway bar, new torsion bars, sub frame connectors, and new rear springs all on the same day, I can’t tell which component made the greatest contribution to much improved over all handling dynamics.

Sub frame connectors can’t hurt a forty year old car missing its steel top that has been flexing, and resisting the gravitational pull of the earth all this time.

I went a little overboard on my 67 convertible, with subframe connectors, roll bar, shock tower brace, and radiator shroud brace. The latter was easy, just bolted a steel pipe across the front of the radiator shroud, low down. The car feels like new, and is very quiet over the bumps. This was mostly done for my own amusement, and to learn welding.

If your car leaves hard enough to fully extend the front shocks you will eventually bend it.

I wrinkled the roof on a '72 Challenger, and bowed the driver's side torsion bar against the floor on a '70 340 4 speed Swinger.

Neither car ever went faster than 13:50's.

You can make a pair of weld in connectors from 2X2 box. There used to be a thread on here somewhere with pictures of the ones we put in the red car.

I should easily hit 13.5. Sounds like I should do something then.

What's my wheel base? It seems I need to know to pick out the correct ones.

I like the radiator shroud idea. Seems like an area that'd allow a good amount of flex, given that there's only sheet metal there. Got any pics?

It was gmader's suggestion. Visible in the second photo, down at the bottom. http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=39225

What will be the subframe connector length for a '65 Dart? Since that is the same wheelbase as mi '74 Dodge Polara RT and I want bolt-in subframe connector.

Wheelbase on the '65 Dart is 111 inch.

Thanks Dan!

So this MP subframe connector will be a direct bolt on?
