Ok, I have adjusted the float and gotten my 65 Barracuda to sit and idle. The problem is it idles very high. With out a tack, I;m not positive but I would guess around 2000 rpm. I can bring it down by forcing it down. vacumm shows 18 and it starts up quickly on its own. The adjustment screws are not why it is idleing so high.
please help
thanks

For clarification, you were running a BBD two barrel on this, right? (Or is it something else?)

If I remember right, you rebuilt this carburetor. What are you using for linkage to this carburetor? When the accelerator pedal is released, do you have some slack in the cable/linkage? Is the choke functional, and have you made any adjustments to make sure it is fully disengaged when warmed up? Is the fast idle hardware correctly installed?

And now to vacuum leaks. Test for these at all surfaces, plug the vacuum advance line to make sure that isn't a source of excess air to the engine. PCV? What are the conditions of the hoses?

I had it rebuilt. It is a carter 2 barrell which was on the car when I bought it. The vacuum hoses are new as is the pvc valve. I replaced the fuel pump and am running off of a 5 gal gas can. I need to drop the gas tank as soon as I can get it to run well enough to back up on some ramps. I know the tanks full of crap, that led to the rebuild.
vacuum is up to around 19 and steady but valves have not been adjusted yet.
thanks for info.
