Post subject:  Carb Cleaning / Adjustment

I'm going to be doing some minor things with my car this week and was wondering if there is anything I could / should be doing while I have my carb off of it. It's a single barrel Holley from a 69 Valiant. I'm replacing the base gasket, but aside from rebuilding it, is there anything in particular I should clean, adjust or inspect while I have it off? It's been a long time since it's had any work on it--if it ever has...???? Thanks.

I will pull the bowl from time to time to check for debris. Don't forget to re-oil the gasket so it will come off nicely next time. I have used the same fuel bowl gasket for over 5 years now and it still looks good..! :)

I took my carb apart yesterday. It's soaking in cleaner now. So far, things are going well. I bought a rebuild kit from NAPA to replace the gaskets. Are there any original pieces in the carb that I should NOT replace with the parts in the rebuild kit? Are there factory stock pieces that are better than any new rebuild design? I wanted to get some feedback from you guys before I begin putting it back together. Any replies are appreciated. Thanks a lot. You've all been a lot of help to me.

Judging by the lack of replies, I'm guessing that I'm good to replace every spring and clip supplied in the kit. Going to be working on it in about an hour. Hope I can reassemble it as well as I took it apart. I'll be at a shop with about 8 mechs though, so everything should go smoothly-just might take a little longer than usual. Big thanks to slantsix Dan for posting the links above. Catch you all later.
