I've got the big engine stand from Harbor Freight. Mine is older and doesn't fold, but is otherwise very similar. http://www.harborfreight.com/2000-lb-fo ... 67015.html I've had a slant fall when it was on a smaller stand similar to this. http://www.harborfreight.com/750-lb-cap ... 32915.html |

Thanks Joshua. Yeah, that small one looks like and accident waiting to happen. I may have to go with the 2000 lbs. stand but what I am really looking for is something that lets me keep the tranny hooked to the motor. Any other suggestions? |

There are engine dollies that allow you to keep the engine and trans bolted together, but they are typically engine specific and sit very low to the floor. |

I noticed earlier, on the ebay hyperpac link, that the seller had his engine on a stand...waiting on a response from him/her. I am having a space problem...running out of...and I currently have the engine and tranny connected to my hoist, so I was looking for something low and with wheels. |

I have seen engine cradles (low to the ground) fabricated out of 2x4 with casters bolted to the bottom. If you have some basic tools you could probably fabricate one yourself. |

Thanks Reed. That's probably what I will end up doing. I may make it out of 4x4 so I can raise it a bit higher. |

I just used a creeper or furniture dolly..........Harbor Freight has a 1000lb stand that has 2 front wheel instead of 1. |

Quote: Harbor Freight has a 1000lb stand that has 2 front wheel instead of 1. However, it has a small drawback. The double front legs run into the slightly V-shaped base of my engine hoist, and even with the engine hoist boom extended all the way out, I have to get creative to move an engine from the hoist to the stand. |

I've got a 1250# rated stand from O'reilly's, and a slant bounces pretty badly on it, too. I made my own stand out of 3", 1/4 wall square......nice and solid, now. Do NOT get a three-wheel stand....get a four-wheel stand. Those three-wheelers will dump your engine over on the floor. I built a dolly for an engine/trans assembly from simple 1.5" square tubing. Built it in a three-wheel configuration, two wheels forward under the engine brackets, and a steering caster under the trans mount. I'll see what I can't do to get a pic posted sometime tomorrow. Rusty, thanks for the suggestion and what to watch out for. I hadn't even thought about the legs of my hoist getting in the way. |

Roger, I look forward to seeing the pictures of your stand. Thanks. |

I saw a neat build and run stand on one of the television car shows last weekend. It even folded up to take up less space, but I don't recall if you could mount the transmission. |
