Hello all,

In my 64 dodge shop manual it says that 2.5 degrees static timing is the factory setting on all slants. I'm just curious as to what other people are running with todays gasoline? I have a 1982 hydraulic slant in my 64' val, which has a different compression ratio from 64 as well.. but I've been running about 4 degrees for a week now with no problems. I also have a stock 64' dizzy on the motor.

Any thoughts on how high i can go before pinging?

Thanks,

Aaron

Nominal compression ratio isn't too different between the two. Cam specs are similar, too. 4° advance is perfectly reasonable; you could probably go a few more degrees — next try 6°.

ok so i slide the dizzy hold down clamp a bit to get more room to advance it, and i guess i moved it to far since the most retarded setting was 9 degrees... so i decided to try that since im lazy and it doesnt ping :)

my cooling system is pretty terrible so i need to replace my rad and thermostat incase it gets hot on any hills in the future and nears pinging..
