i have a slant six idles perfect... under any load stalls i disconnected the vacuum advance and it doesnt stall but has a loss of power could the vacuum advance cause the stalling ?? i checked for vacuum leaks timing is 2 degrees btdc at idle accelerator pump is sqirting fuel great any help?? thanks |

Is your timing 2 degrees BTDC with the vac advance disconnected? What happens to timing when you reconnect it? Is the vacuum advance leaking? You shouldn't be able to suck air through it.. When you disconnected the vac advance, did you plug the ported vacuum at the carburetor? CJ |

i didnt plug the carb after disconnecting its 2 degrees btdc with it disconncted |

With it unplugged you have a vacuum leak. Are you plugged into ported vacuum, or manifold vacuum with the advance? CJ |

ported how long can i run without the vacuum advance connected? until i can get a new one |

Once you plug the port that it plugs into on the carb, for quite a while. It will impact your economy by a bit though. Is the vacuum advance leaking? CJ |

i believe the vac advance has a leak i havent had a chance to check it out but now its the opposite with the vac advance disconnected it drives good only at high rpms or WOT and stalls at low rpms and low speed driving will plugging the vac leak at the carb fix this>?? |

Most likely will help your idle. Plug it off with some tape or something untill you can pick up a variety pack of little rubber vacuum caps and get that port plugged off, not good for your engine to run lean.When an engine, think of it as an air pump, is idling, it is not pumping much air, so a small vacuum leak will lean out the mixture. As rpm increases and a lot more air is being pumped, that vacuum leak is rather small compaired to the flow passing the throttle plates. This is why your car is running better at highway speed, and not idling so well. |
