So my question here is not that safety is'nt first but is it safe to reverse the leaf springs on the (front only) to rake my car? I've heard that it can affect the way the car handles and it can be unsafe. Is this true? And what is the potential of it being unsafe? Lastly is it possible to do on my 73' Scamp?

your car does not have springs in the front, it has torsion bars. You can lower the front a limited amount by adjusting the torsion bars. By doing so, you will limit the amount of front end travel, and you will need to get the front end realigned.

You could get some Superstock springs. J.C. Whitney still has them for cheap. Keep in mind that they are made for drag racing in a straight line, and excessive rake makes the car less safe when cornering. may arrive and be the wrong size

If you go to s/s springs, you can change rear shackle and use the B-body springs.the arc is different and will not raise back end up so high, I use them on my Duster and were exact fit. :)

exojjl.

Rising the rear end by installing higher lift springs in an “Aâ€￾ Body will cause the car to over steer more readily, both in hard cornering, and hard braking. Adding a stiff rear anti sway bar will further exacerbate the behavior.

Super stock springs aren’t well suited for street use. They allow the rear axel to move around during cornering, and passing over bumps. You won’t like the on street handling. Your car will feel like one of those hinged in the middle articulated busses found at airports.

Josh Skinner can fill you in on the details.

ok. I don't want to use superstock then. I want the car to handle safely for street use. Also wondering if re-arching them would raise them? Do people even do that anymore? So im looking at using a combination of b-body springs and longer shackles? Lastly im pretty sure cutting the front springs is not a good idea?

Give ESPO a call with regards to your spring needs. Their site dose not list A Body springs, but they can make up any combination you need, 4,5,6 leaf, factory ride height, +1â€￾, +2â€￾ etc. Also any type of bushing, shackle, whatever. Best part is; their prices are very reasonable, you will be happy.

You can flip the hangers at the front of the leaf spring upside-down, and this is relatively safe, but this lowers the car instead of raising it.

Let me put safety aside for one moment and state that I am a poor part-time worker. How much can I rake it by cutting the front springs?

There are no front springs in the classical sense, so there's nothing to cut. It's a straight, solid steel bar that has a twist imparted to it by the lower control arms. Being as the steel bar fights the twist, it acts like a spring. There are no coils or leafs to modify.
Sorry, dude, you're actually going to have to think this one through.

Roger

Not only that, but what you don't seem to understand is that you don't NEED to do anything so drastic as cutting in order to lower your front end, as long as you don't go too far. There is an adjustment bolt in the middle of each lower control arm, pointing straight down at the ground. Turning this one way lowers that side of the car, the other way raises it. This adjustability makes the coil-cutting Ford and Chevy guys look like barbarians.

The only downside is that lowering the front end this way will make the suspension feel softer, which is the opposite of what you want. Also, if you want to go lower than what the adjustment is capable of (like dropping the frame to the ground), you're talking about MAJOR rebuild/fabrication on any car, regardless of make.

your right. for some reason i kept thinking it has coils on the front. my only thought is to maybe adjust the front to lower it just a little and use longer shackles.
