hi sages- wondering about an article i read in this months car and parts mag which explains the better, brighter lighting provided by a napa xenon sealed beam headlight . does anyone have any experience/ comment on it? dan is an electrical expert . would like to hear his opinion. thanks tons bob f |

I see Dan hasn't answered yet, so I'll chime in. "Xenon" can mean a couple of things. HID lights are sometimes called xenon lights, since many HID designs are filled with xenon or a xenon-mercury mix. Since these don't require special power supplies, they're not that sort of xenon light. Then you have "xenon" halogen or sealed beams that have a stupid blue filter to make them look vaguely like a xenon HID lamp. This is a horrible idea. Avoid it. Lastly, you have halogen lights where xenon has been used as an additive to the halogen mixture. I'm not sure how much of an effect this has. |

so matt are you advising that type 2 and 3 are bogus and type 1 needs a special power supply. the napa one in the cars and parts article didnt sayanything about a special power supply. let me know. thanks bob f |

Just put the FACTORY headlights in your car. Searching the site for info on converting to relays is a very good idea, and more worth while upgrade. Aftermarket, super bright, whiz-bang, headlights are a very bad idea. Those lights have been known to make the car in front of you do strange things, that could be detrimental to your valuable classic Mopar. Headlights without a DOT insignia could leave you open to legal action if you are anywhere near an accident while it is happening. Law enforcement officers seem to take more interest in vehicles with "colored" headlights. State inspections would fail them too, I know you don't have these, but for others no DOT means fail. Type 1 is real, clearly not what NAPA is carrying, and very expensive.Type 2 is a rip off. Type 3 is not necessarily bogus. |

True tophat,cops love different color lights.Been pulled over 4 times in 15 years I owned my '68 Barracuda.The tail lights are white,and when you step on the brakes,they turn red.These are OEM,and the cops would not back off until I showed them the 1968 DOT marking on them. |
