acquired an engine with hyd lifters but solid pushrods & mechanical type rocker arms. has a '79-80 # cyl head & block deck # 9225R 11 7 E. Help me out here, how do the lifters get oil ? Has a decent cam, Lunati 268 & 060 over bore, headers & 4B intake. # 4 intake had stripped rocker adj screw & somebody put a solid lifter & a bigger screw in adjuster. Ordered new lifter & gskts but can't figuire how they were getting oil, don't they oil thru rocker arms & hollow push rods ? |

The only oil they'd be getting, unless somebody did some really nifty machine work to the block, and installed a different style lifter, is drain-back oil. Hydraulic lifters would not pump up with solid push-rods. If they are pumping up, you'll have to do some exploring to see what was done. CJ |

Are you sure the lifters are hydro?I have seen lifters that look like hydro but are solid.Guzzi Mark |

lifters are hydro type. Is it possible to screw the adj down & run collapsed lifters ? There was no rocker arm to valve stem clearence, do the hydro cams not have a clearence area built into their profile ? This is a Lunati # HI 268-268 & 484, engine sounded pretty sharp except for occasional clatter from # 4 cyl. This cam is close to the MOPAR 270 & 490 I've had success with. Could I salvage this engine by useing hydro rocker arms & pushrods ? Don't know which way to go with this one. Thanks for your responce |

The most important thing to check on the current set-up are the valve stem heights. Any hydraulic lifter set-up, using non-adjustable rocker arms, needs all the valves / valve stems set to the same height so remove the rocker-arm assembly, put a straight edge across the valve stem tips and inspect / measure any gaps you see. (use feeler gauges to measure the ones not touching the straight edge) If the head was set-up correctly, to support the use of hydraulic lifters and non-adjustable rocker arms, then install that system and go. If the valve stem heights are not even, change over to the solid lifter set-up. DD |
